"In our modern world, everywhere we
look we see the influence science has upon our daily lives.
Discoveries that were miracles a few short years ago
are accepted as commonplace today."
-Walter Elias Disney
It's interesting isn't it?
In my junior year of highschool, I've learned more about physics than Issac Newton possibly could within his entire
lifetime. Science has progressed so far, and with such easy access to the internet and therefore history, it feels
a tad overwhelming. Nuclear fusion seems like it will soon come to fruition, which in turn will eliminate most of the
need for energy. AI is fabricating video and audio and generating information, likely having terrible implications for
digital evidence.
The future is now, and unlike all the other times that phrase has been said, it actually feels real.
Too real.
Why d'you suppose I'm writing a personal website like it's 1999 and posting it to Geo- *ahem* Neocities?
I am a hobbyist of old tech, (which is an unfortunate hobby for a poor person to have.) and I can't help but wonder if
maybe a part of the reason why is perhaps I prefer when times were simpler. Not even in a nostalgia clogged way,
but in the way that one didn't have to worry if the world might explode before you open your eyes in the morning.
I'm no doom herald, but I can understand those who are. Let's try and be optimistic, okay?
